LexGrade is an open instrument for grading legal motions. The principles, the weights, and the ethics gate are published in full, in human and machine-readable form.
Why an ethics gate? In one 2024 study, leading language models hallucinated in 58–88% of their answers to verifiable questions about federal court cases (Dahl et al., Large Legal Fictions). The Standard treats a single fabricated citation as an automatic −20, because candor toward the court is where grading has to start.
The criteria come from real motion practice. A well-built motion serves everyone involved, including the court that has to decide it. Why this exists
